Southland Museum and At Gallery (including the Tuatara House)

Probably Invercargill's main attraction is the combined museum and art gallery.

A distinctive feature is the tuatara breeeding programme. (Tuataras are long-lived reptiles native to New Zealand).

Also highly recommended are the exhibitions on New Zealand's wind-swept sub-antarctic islands and the audiovisual "Roaring Forties Experience".

An exhibition with local significance is "Burt Munro, The Making of a Legend." depicting the life of the motorcycle racer in relation to the film and Invercargill.

William Hodges Fellowship artist in residence:
The William Hodges Fellowship artist in residence programme aims to bring significant New Zealand visual artists to Southland and allow them to work within and respond to the Southland environment and community while they are also making a contribution to the Southland community and its artists.

The residency takes place at Burwell house, Dee Street, Invercargill
