Civic Offices, Christchurch (formerly Miller's Building)

Tuam Street (Between Columbo and Manchester Streets)
Christchurch, Canterbury
Very modern for its time, this Bauhaus inspired modernist building, which originally had a factory on the upper floors and Millers department store below, was designed by G A J Hart, and dates from 1935.
For children visiting the department store was a treat, as it had the first escalotor in Christchurch. It also had a monster ice cream and soda bar.
