Carlucci Land

Happy Valley Road, Ohiro Bay
Owhiro Bay, Wellington
Scrap sculpture park and Mini Golf Course.
A totally unique attraction in a totally unique environment. In Happy Valley where urban fringe Brooklyn abruptly gives way to coastal and rural Ohiro Bay, next door to the city's Landfill and opposite grandly titled Tawatawa Reserve, which is a block of scrub crisscrossed with rough tracks, is weird and wonderful Carlucci Land.
The owner, Carl Gifford, is an artist, stone mason, former mayoral candidate, and Wellington identity. He has extensive plans for his property, which stretches to the ridge on the western hill above. In 2016, he was working on this hill when his digger exploded and he was injured, some of his pine trees also catching fire.
The sculpture park and 18 hole mini golf challenge are still gaining popularity, packed out on fine weekends, but running on an honesty box during the weekdays.
Giffords artistic skills are in re-purposing mainly metal scrap, forming exotic creatures of all shapes and sizes, his signature pieces being spiders the size of sheds, which crawl about his hillside, including one introductory one further north on Happy Valley Road.
What is next for this interesting character and his interesting park is not known, visitors, please post us your pictures and account of fun and games at Carlucci Land.
