Central Bus Station

46 – 50 Lichfield St., Christchurch
Christchurch, Canterbury
A massive purpose built bus interchange, planned and developed following the 2011 earthquakes. The interchange, designed by Architectus, is modelled on an airport lounge concept, aiming to cater for 70,000 passengers per day on 2041. Some busses still have their stops outside of the terminus.

Safety is a key factor in the design and a nod to the environment is a central rain garden. Accessibility features like bicycle parking are intended to keep Cantabrians using their buses.

Construction updates can be viewed on The Central City Development Unit website, including time lapse photography of construction.

The Bus Interchange is an anchor project in the Christchurch rebuild.
