St Francis De Sales Catholic Church

Victoria Road
Devonport, Auckland
Nestled in a stunning position on the north western side of the lower slopes of Devonports Mount Victoria is this 1919 double brick Catholic marvel.
The designer, Edward Mahoney was the designer has used the Gothic Revival style with a touches of Jacobean in the turrets.
Three tier hammer trusses support the roof over a single nave 19 x 12.5 m without side aisles.
Used and loved by the community ever since it also goes by the name 'All Souls', added at it's dedication after the end of WW1.
In an interesting twist of architectural history, this church was built over the top of the former wooden church on the site, which was then dismantled and taken out the front door.
That wooden structure had earlier been moved there by barge after serving for some time in an Auckland City Parish.
