Fairlie is a crossroads town (pop 600) on the way to Lake Tekapo and Mt Cook. It is distinguished mainly by having a statue of Jame McKenzie the sheep stealer who gave his name to the Mackenzie Country.

Mount Dobson ski field is 26km to the north west.
