Kawatiri Circular Walk

Near the junction of SH 6 and SH 63.
Kawatiri, Nelson/Marlborough
A delightful loop walk through beech forest incorporates a river crossing and a tunnel. (30 minutes return). At the nearby Kawatiri Junction a display gives the history of the Nelson Railway (1920 - 1955) which never got beyond here. There is a DOC campsite.

Patrick Dunford (enzedrail@gmail.com) comments: Although the railway was officially opened only to there, the line was operational as far as Gowanbridge, and formation works were constructed some kilometres further south.
