Church of the Good Shepherd Tinui

Manawa Road
Tinui, Wellington
One of many churches designed by the Wellington firm of Clere & Swan, this Anglican church is Swan's design as Clere was in England at the time (1902).

In 1916 the very first ANZAC day service was held in Tinui. After the 1916 service the vicar, the Reverend Basil Ashcroft, led the villagers to the top of Mt Maunsell (the Tinui Taipos) where a large wooden cross was erected.

The aluminium cross which replaced it in 1965 can be seen from the village.
