St Paul’s, Hairini

Rangiaowhia Road
Puahue, Waikato
One of the most controversial battles of the Waikato Wars took place at Rangiaowhia (now Hairini) when the British attacked an undefended Maori village.

A mission station was founded at Rangiaowhia in the 1840s. The Gothic Revival St Paul’s Church, built by the Church Missionary Society in 1856, was already standing when the battle took place.(1864)
