Nga Manu means 'The birds.'
This reserve, administered by a charitable trust contains the largest single remaining remanent of original coastal lowland swamp forest on the Kapiti Coast. It has 15 hectares of lowland swamp forest with mature specimens of kahikatea, pukatea, rimu, tawa, swamp maire and many native shrubs and ferns. Birds which may be seen are: Kaka, kea, kakariki, blue duck, paradise shelduck, shoveller, scaup, grey teal, grey duck, tui, kereru,and kingfisher.

The tour operator below is a private provider who can take visitors bird watching at the Waikanae Estuary at Otaihanga.
