Carter Observatory (National Observatory of New Zealand)

A place to view the night sky through a telescope or at a planetarium. A recent refurbishment has added a multimedia exhibition all about the Southern Skies.

William Gray Young was the architect for the Observatory which was built in 1940/41.

Open 7 days a week from 10am until 5pm, with late night stargazing every Saturday (weather-permitting!). See the website for stargazing times.

There is an entrance fee.

TRANSPORT:
Use the Cable Car from Lambton Quay or you can park for up to two hours in the park next to the Skyline Restaurant at the end of Upland Rd.
