An architectectural gem of its kind. A survivor from the days of provincial government in New Zealand. Built in both stone and wood, this complex is constructed in Victorian Gothic Revival style. The architect was Benjamin Woolfield Mountfort.
The Council Chambers itself is well worth visiting.
